As a Crime Scene Investigator or a Detective, you use fingerprint brushes all of the time. There are several types, and fingerprint brushes have improved over time. Who developed the first brush? Though it is unclear who was the first person to create the standard fingerprint brush,

Herbert MacDonell is known for being the first person to develop the magnetic fingerprint brush. He made the magnetic brush in 1961. Since then, magnetic brushes have been part of most standard fingerprint kits. Before that, for instance, the FBI fingerprint kits in the 1930s usually held a magnifying glass, a basic brush, and powder.

Today we have more options when it comes to brushes and powders. Even though most basic fingerprint powder works well on most surfaces, some areas require other powders such as volcanic white, fluorescent, or magnetic.
